Girl Under Glass #10: Worthless Word — Six Sentence Sunday

Welcome back, Sixers. August was a good release month for Girl Under Glass, and sales exceeded my goal. My thanks to those of you who’ve bought the book; I do hope you enjoy(ed) the read. :D

Today’s Six Sentence Sunday post continues Rachel’s gunpoint confrontation with the alien soldier. (Last week that soldier learned that Rachel’s dogs, Jack and Audie, are as suspicious of his intentions as Rachel is.)

========

He grimaced and shifted, and I glanced at his right leg. Mud and blood caked his fatigues from the knee down. It had thundered and blustered all night, and I didn’t envy this man being caught in the storm.

“I’m not here to harm you,” he said. “You have my word.”

“Which isn’t worth shit.”

========

She’s not giving him an inch. Not yet anyway.

========

As always, I recommend a trip to the Six Sentence Sunday website to get the list of writers participating in this week’s hop.

  2. I’m loving every one of these snippets! I had computer issues last week so couldn’t comment. I have so many books I *need* to read, and a few I *want* to read, but this one just moved from my TO BUY list to BUY RIGHT NOW! (And read at earliest possible moment!) Great stuff, Monica!

    And…argh. Back to logging in with twitter because WordPress STILL doesn’t like me. :P

    • Thank you, Silver! What a huge compliment! I hope you enjoy reading GUG, and I look forward to hearing your feedback. (And good luck with the computer problems. Crossing my fingers for you.)

  3. I love the way that the advantage is subtley shifting from being with the strange soldier threatening the vulnerable woman, to being with the stalwart woman letting the injured stranger know where the line is that he shouldn’t step over.

  4. Yep…I started to type “wow”. This book is a piece of knock-your-socks-off fiction. I have to read a couple books for review this week, and as soon as they are done, I’m reading Girl Under Glass, again. :-)
