deer in kitchen

Why Is there a Deer in my Kitchen?

This morning my dreams took a very strange turn. One involved nuclear armageddon. (As in OMFG nuclear armageddon just happened, I am woefully unprepared, and why is there a deer in my kitchen?) The other involved me wearing Kathy Bates like a suit. Seriously.

Needless to say, I woke feeling disoriented and very ‘what the hell what that?’ and had to lie in bed pondering my lack of stored supplies (I need seeds and water!) and the wonders of mail order Kathy-Bates-in-a-box. After getting my grumpy lil ‘un off to school, and sharing my brain madness with my coworkers, I realized three things.

1. The deer was my brain’s way of telling me to chill; the world is not coming to an end and that’s what happens when you’re writing the second book in a dystopian/sci-fi series.

2. Duuude. Wearable Kathy Bates. (Yes, I wrote that one down. Dark comedy. Future short story.)

3. (And this is the thing that gives me hope.) My creative brain is kicking into high gear.

I’ve been in what-the-hell-is-this-book-gonna-be-about? mode on The Glass Asylum since before Christmas. I started writing last month, but have been meandering. Yesterday afternoon I finally got that ah-ha moment: Ehtishem made a promise to Rachel at the end of Girl Under Glass; every moment in this book moves toward fulfilling that promise (struggling all the way, of course). Crystal clear.

Why’d it take so long to see the obvious? I dunno. Maybe my brain will answer that question tonight. After I finish cranking out the words.

  • Possibly from reading my short? πŸ˜‰

    • Monica Enderle Pierce

Aha! So it’s your fault! Welll, thanks! πŸ˜€

  • That was an adorable deer. Much cuter than the dear in my kitchen. Glad you listened to your subconscious, though. Onward! Mom

    • Monica Enderle Pierce

True, but I suspect the dear in your kitchen is less esoteric. And my subconscious was kinda screaming, I think.

  • I love your twisted mind. πŸ™‚ And YIPPEEEEEEE for it kicking into high creative gear. I can’t wait to read the results.

    • Monica Enderle Pierce

Ha! You would like my special sort of madness.

  • OMG, that’s is such a sweet little deer face!
